Kate Phelan started working on movies in the early ’90s, earning credits on KIDS, NADJA, I SHOT ANDY WARHOL, HAPPINESS. She gaffed the Sundance winner GIRLFIGHT directed by Karyn Kusama, sleeper hit PIECES OF APRIL and SUNSHINE STATE for indie film legend, John Sayles.

In 2004 Kate moved from the lighting department to director of photography. She lensed the first season of TOSH.O and the Emmy nominated web series, HONESTY, both for Comedy Central. She’s shot promos for CBS, VH1, TBS, Nickelodeon and E! as well as pilots for MTV & VH1. Feature film FALL TO RISE screened at Lincoln Center’s Dance on Film series in 2015. Kate occasionally works as a camera operator on shows such as ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK and MADAM SECRETARY.

In 2012 Kate began directing. She completed a two year writing fellowship at Writers Bootcamp and studied acting with Sidse Plough at The Barrow Group. In 2014 she trailed director/showrunner/big brother Tony Phelan on GREYS ANATOMY (Season 10 episode 24). In 2016 she wrote and directed the short VISIT 57 which was screened at Hamptons Film Fest in 2016 as part of NYWIFT Women Calling the Shots. She recently completed the short, 12:58pm about a mom who gets locked out moving her car while her toddler sleeps upstairs. Kate directs promos, webseries and branded content.
